Acerinox says 2,000 workers hours reduced
Spanish stainless steel maker Acerinox (ACX.MC) said it was cutting working hours in half for 2,000 workers at its Palmones plant in Campo de Gibraltar in Cadiz, southern Spain, to address weak demand.

“The temporary layoff scheme will affect about 2,000 employees because although the plant’s total workforce is 2,267, we need to exclude those who do not participate in the collective bargaining agreement and those who have interim contracts,” the plant’s trade union Deputy Chairman Paqui Candea said on Tuesday.
Acerinox said 82.66 percent of the workforce accepted the terms of the reduction after talks on Monday. The steelmaker wants to reduce production capacity to match its order books.
At the beginning of February, Acerinox said it had started talks with workers at the Palmones factory over measures to cut production at the plant.
