On weak demand from European customers stainless steel surcharges have again fallen. The price of Nickel remains weak having dropped through the key barrier of $16,000 per tonne there is no short term signs of reversal.
Its now into the summer holiday months now when mills will extend shutdowns to reduce inventories in the hope of stimulating demand.
With market leaders like Outokumpu and commentators like Steel & Metals Market Research both stating that prices are expected to soften with demand remaining weak its a bleak outlook for the stainless industry.
The surcharges for the key grades are listed below:-
304 / 1.4301 – 1378 EUR 1093 GBP
316 / 1.4404 – 2098 EUR 1674 GBP
