Stainless steel in New York skyscraper
One of New York’s Downtown’s largest employer is consolidating its headquarters under one Battery Park City roof. In a stainless steel clad skyscraper.The facade of the 228 meter tall building features stainless steel supplied by ThyssenKrupp Nirosta. The global headquarters of financial service providers Goldman Sachs has now opened for business and more than 9,000 employees have moved into offices there since January 2010.
Construction work on the new Goldman Sachs headquarters building started in late 2005. It was designed by the renowned US architectural firm of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. The 43 story building overlooking the Hudson River is equipped with a special eco friendly under floor air system provided by multiple environmental air towers located in the tenant space that deliver 62 degree air into a raised access floor plenum. This underfloor air system provides users with the ability to control their own space temperature as well as improving the ventilation effectiveness.
The cladding is made from 316 or 1.4404 with a Linen finish. The material was supplied by ThyssenKrupp Nirosta who in total supplied 400 tonnes of material.
The investment bank founded on Pine Street in 1869, relocated to the 43-story office tower at West and Vesey Streets that cost over $2 Billion to construct.
